Cathy Wilke has yet to throw out her “skinny jeans” which are the centerpiece of her one-woman show, Thin Body, Fat Mind. Trained as a dancer, she had an early introduction into the world of body dysmorphia. She began writing about that one evil pair of pants that she just couldn’t seem to let go of after she had left the world of performing. Many monologues later, Thin Body, Fat Mind was born. “As someone who was seen as thin and normal, I wanted to let the world know that there are thousands of women out there who are tormented by food and who sacrifice their quality of life in order to maintain their weight” says Cathy. She hopes that women will see themselves in the material and realize that they are not alone in their behaviors.
Writing and performing this material has been a healing journey and she hopes that audiences get similar benefit out of the show. In 2005, Cathy adapted Thin Body, Fat Mind for high school and middle school students. The show has been performed in High Schools throughout Westchester and Connecticut, Thin Body Fat Mind was featured at the Uniquely Me Ambassador Summit at both the Westchester-Putnam Girl Scouts Council and the Long Island Girl Scouts Council in November 2006.
In 2007, Thin Body, Fat Mind was presented for Women Empowered; a professional women’s organization at Keyspan Energy in New York City.
Trained as a life coach, Cathy has created the workshop Feed Your Soul, Feed Your Body to continue her commitment to helping the women and girls of the world get out of the mirror and into their lives.
In 2008 Cathy was invited to present her workshop Feed Your Soul, Feed Your Body at the Junior Achievement Young Women’s Leadership Conference.
Cathy will be a featured presenter at the National Eating Disorder Awareness Week Conference at San Deigo State University in February 2009.
She is committed to helping the women and girls of the world release themselves from the prison of perfection so that they may see themselves as the amazing, beautiful and powerful creatures they are. She currently resides in Westchester with her husband Larry who has food issues of his own. In addition she would like you to know that she thinks that Kelly Rippa is too thin…way too thin.
